What happened:
My name is Michael and I’m a 50-year old teacher who lives in Lafayette. Our house was burglarized in early June. The police believe that the robbery was committed by at least one person who lives in Marin County. They have evidence, but cannot, at this point, link them to any stolen property. We don’t own many valuables, but while tearing our house apart the burglars came upon my comic book collection. It was too big to take everything, but I have almost all of it in BCW boxes. Some in the smaller 250 issue boxes and others in the larger boxes. Most of my writing about what is in the boxes is done on the box covers and it is written in purple marker. I do remember that my “Batman#1” (think it says #1, but it means Batman box #1…I don’t own a no. 1 Batman) is written in black felt marker. I just wanted to give you a head’s up in case someone came in trying to sell a collection. The comics that were taken were Batman, Detective Comics, The Incredible Hulk, Tales to Astonish, Strange Tales, Amazing Spiderman, Captain America, She Hulk and my T.V. issues. Out of everything, the t.v. issues might be the most telling.
T.V. issues included Bewitched, Star Trek, The Wild, Wild West, Happy Days, Welcome Back Kotter, A Giant Little Archie, Archie vs. The Punisher (#1), Archie and Me (#8), H and R Puff and Stuff (#7) and I think there was a Bob Hope issue. The comics are early editions. The collection is very eclectic and if they tried to sell all the books, I believe my collection would be easily identified. Here is a pretty complete list of what was taken.

My boxes, BCW boxes, are unique because I tape the handles with packing or duct tape. I don’t see many other people do this. Also, the cover for the box that has The Incredible Hulk has been recovered, so that box, if they are still in the boxes, is most likely coverless. Please contact me or the Lafayette Police Department if you have any information.

I know the collection isn’t worth $1,000,000 but it is very valuable to me!!
As a child in the Bay Area, I collected comics and baseball cards. It brought me so much joy to ride my bike to Comics and Comix in Palo Alto. But when I hit high school I sold my comics in order to invest in baseball cards. What a mistake. It was a decision I’ve regretted for some time. But that resentment fueled me to start collecting again.

I just completed my 21st year of teaching. I’ve lived with the woman who is my wife for that whole period. We have done animal rescue (cats, dogs, bunnies, and birds…if only our pitbull Tennyson had still been alive, this wouldn’t have happened) for many years. My nephew, sister-in-law, wife, me and our animals moved out to Contra Costa County many years ago. There were a couple of comic stores that I came across out here and about 15 years ago I slowly got back into collecting/investing. I teach full time and tutor about 15 hours a week and we still weren’t easily paying the bills, but occasionally I would buy a comic. Then things changed six years ago..

My wife was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. She neede
