DOWNEY, CA – Surveillance footage has captured the rapid theft of a silver 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS from a residential property in Downey on March 12, 2026. Between 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM, a white, unmarked repo-style tow truck hooked the vehicle and left the scene.

While the tow truck’s license plate was visible on camera, the thieves had rendered it unreadable using a specialized film or spray designed to block camera detection.

Investigative Analysis: The High-Performance SUV Market

The Trailblazer SS remains a high-value target for car thieves due to its Corvette-derived LS2 engine and unique performance components. These vehicles are often stolen to be stripped for parts or used in illegal street takeovers. This specific vehicle is highly identifiable due to several custom modifications: Yellow brake calipers, black wheels, and distinctive chameleon headlights that can switch between ultra white (6K), mid (5000K), and extreme yellow (3000K).

The interior also features an upgraded Kenwood double-DIN radio system and integrated TV headrests on both the driver and passenger sides.

A formal report has been filed with the Downey Police Department under Case Number 2026-00009302.
