Chopped and Stolen: Rare 1939 Mercury Series 99A Vanishes
Rancho Cucamonga, CA – A rare and valuable classic car, a 1939 Mercury Series 99A, was the target of a theft on August 2nd, 2024. The vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of the Victoria Gardens Shopping Mall in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
The stolen Mercury is a black coupe with a distinctive chopped roof modification, a popular customization in the hot rod scene. The chopped roof lowers the height of the car, giving it a more aggressive and sleek appearance. This modification, along with the car’s overall condition, likely made it a prime target for thieves.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has filed a stolen vehicle report and is actively investigating the case. Additionally, private auto theft investigator Marc Hinch has been brought in to assist with the search for the missing vehicle.
