Stolen Classic Bugatti Recovered

CHP Auto Theft Detective and now Private Investigator Marc Hinch poses with Mick O’Neill and the Classic 1922 Bugatti recovered after a theft.

This classic 1922 Bugatti had just finished a driving tour of Australia when it was transported to San Rafael, California for maintenance and much-needed restoration work. While parked in an enclosed trailer, thieves entered the business property, hooked up to the trailer, and made off with this classic car worth over $250,000 dollars.

At the time I was one of several CHP and Task Force Auto Theft Investigators assisting with the case. The lead investigators obtained information that the thieves involved were a crew operating in the Pinole area across the SF Bay from San Rafael. Their exact location was not known.

Using Stolen 911, which I had developed years earlier, I created a social media campaign directly targeting the geographic region of Pinole. Within 9 hours, I was receiving tips regarding the Bugatti’s whereabouts. Later that day, we made a recovery.
