US Customs and Border Protection is working to stop the flow of stolen vehicles out of the country, with the Port of Baltimore being a key point of interception. The vast majority of these vehicles, approximately 90-95%, are headed to West Africa. CBP uses advanced technology like giant x-ray machines to scan shipping containers, as criminals often disguise stolen vehicles by renting them and using fake Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs). Despite collaborative efforts with authorities in African countries and Interpol, the global demand for inexpensive used cars makes it unlikely that the traffic of stolen vehicles will decrease significantly.
