Between September 28 and September 29, 2026, while the owner was away on vacation, someone broke into a residence in Baton Rouge, LA, located and took the keys to a family vehicle, and drove off with a silver 2013 Nissan Sentra from the driveway. The following day, the suspects allegedly returned to the property using the stolen vehicle and loaded it with vintage guitars, audio equipment, and lawn equipment before disappearing again.
Among the stolen items was a 1971 or 1972 Alvarez-Yairi DY-77 Signature Series acoustic guitar, handmade by renowned luthier Kazuo Yairi as a faithful copy of a 1908 Martin Herringbone. The guitar shows over 50 years of heavy playing wear, including wood worn through to bare grain above and below the pickguard, making it instantly identifiable. Also taken were a 1979-1981 Aria Pro II Titan Series TA-70 semi-hollow electric guitar covered in distinctive LSU and political stickers on its case, a Vester Stage Series Mod 800 with rare zebra-stripe binding, and a Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club electric guitar. A Mesa Boogie speaker cabinet wrapped in hand-painted African mudcloth, a 7-slot audio effects rack, and lawn equipment including a Kobalt 40V mower and Black & Decker leaf blower were also stolen.
