Classic 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Targeted in Fort Wayne Storage Unit Heist

, ,

FORT WAYNE, IN – Authorities are investigating the targeted theft of a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner that was stolen from a secured storage facility on November 29, 2025. Investigators believe the theft was deliberate, as surveillance footage shows the suspect bypassing security measures and proceeding directly to the unit housing the vehicle.

The classic muscle car was taken from Unit J30 at a storage facility located at 2504 Getz Road. According to investigators, the suspect did not search other units and appeared to have prior knowledge of the vehicle’s location.

The stolen vehicle is described as a black 1968 Plymouth Road Runner (Satellite conversion), identified by VIN RH23F8G225350. It was displaying either Indiana plate AA474J or a vintage plate 79A1943 at the time of the theft.

The Road Runner features a custom refurbished interior in a gold and beige-tan color scheme, replacing the original blue and gray interior. Additional identifying features include aftermarket Madden 500 rims, a vintage bumper sticker, and an aftermarket stereo system valued at approximately $1,000. Performance upgrades reportedly include bored-out cylinders and a larger camshaft.

Surveillance footage from the facility shows the suspect arriving in an older sedan, estimated to be a mid-2000s Chevrolet Monte Carlo or Impala. The suspect initially attempted to gain access by guessing gate codes. After failing, the individual entered the property through an unlocked fire escape gate.

The suspect then walked directly to Unit J30 and drilled out the facility-issued tubular lock. After briefly leaving the property—possibly parking at a nearby shopping center—the suspect returned on foot approximately 12 minutes later. The individual remained inside the unit for several minutes before likely hotwiring the Road Runner and driving it out of the complex, heading northbound.

The facility manager advised investigators that the suspect appeared familiar with lock-drilling techniques and possessed the specific tools required for the job. The suspect’s efficiency and direct movement to the unit strongly suggest the theft was planned and targeted.

A report was taken by the Fort Wayne Police Department under report number 25F141501. This investigation has also been assigned 6-0022.
